Abu Dhabi Racing’s Junior Rally Program driver Mohamed Al Mutawaa and co-driver Niall Burns won the 2-wheel drive category (R3) at Rally Vaucluse in France. Winning six out of the 10 stages, Al Mutawaa was on fire from the word go behind the wheel of his Citroen DS3 R3 and made a concerted effort to stay ahead of the competition in class.
While it was not necessarily all smooth going, Al Mutawaa relied on his experience to continue to move up the order as the rally progressed. At the end of the first day, Al Mutawaa said: "Very happy with today's pace. We were setting fast times without pushing. We struggled a bit in the morning loop but PHSport found a solution and we were able to get more grip in the afternoon loop. There were slippery stages which were rough in some places. I thoroughly enjoyed stages 3/6, which were more like those on Middle East stages!""
Al Mutawaa does not want to rest on his recent victory and is already looking forward to next year. He added: "Could not ask for a better ending to my season. First in two-wheel drive and 13th overall at Rally Vaucluse in France! I would like to thank Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi and Abu Dhabi Racing for their continuous support and faith in me. I am really glad and happy to work with Niall Burns this year; the two of us learnt a lot and were able to make substantial progress. A big thank you to PHSport for preparing a wonderful set-up for the car. Now I am looking forward to what next year will have to offer and I hope to keep progressing in my rally career.""
